Frequently asked questions

When the AQI for fine particles (PM2.5) reaches 151, California requires employers to protect and train workers who may be exposed to wildfire smoke. That includes farm, packing house, construction, roofing, landscaping and tree care workers, utility and telecom crews, delivery drivers, parking, security and outdoor event staff.

It covers the general Appendix B topics. Appendix B also asks each employer to explain its own communication system and its own protection methods: fill in the employer page included with the course and give it to each worker. If the AQI for PM2.5 goes above 500, the law requires a full respiratory protection program (medical evaluation and fit testing); this course does not replace it. HealthSafetyU does no medical evaluations or fit tests. This course is not a Cal/OSHA approval or certification.

About 35 minutes, online. Each worker goes at their own pace, on a computer or a phone, and can start right after paying.

Each certificate of completion shows the date and the exam result, and has a verification code and a QR code. Employers can verify it online. It is valid for one year.
