In California, Cal/OSHA requires training for every employee at risk of heat illness before they begin that work, and for supervisors before they supervise it (8 CCR 3395(h) and 3396(h)). That includes farm, construction, landscaping, delivery, warehouse, kitchen, laundry and factory workers. Supervisors, foremen and crew leaders take CAL 202, the course with the supervisor module.
No online course alone meets every part of the standard. The employer must have its own written Heat Illness Prevention Plan, provide water and shade or cool-down areas, use high-heat procedures when they apply, and explain the site information to each worker: where the water and shade are, who calls 911 and the exact address for the ambulance. The course includes an employer page to write down this information. This course is not a Cal/OSHA approval or certification.
About 45 minutes, online. Each worker goes at their own pace, on a computer or a phone, and can start right after paying.
Each certificate of completion shows the date, the exam result and the instructor's name, and has a verification code and a QR code. Employers can verify it online. It is valid for one year.
